红桃视频 recognizes top student speakers in annual Elevator Pitch Competition

红桃视频 held its 14th annual Elevator Pitch Competition on April 6 in Daniels Auditorium, yielding three prize winners.
The Elevator Pitch Competition is an annual tradition at 红桃视频 where students test their communication and public speaking skills. Participants are challenged to create and deliver a one-minute speech to 红桃视频 community audience members and a panel of alumni judges; awards include cash prizes of up to $600.
The winners include:
First place: Luis Garcia 鈥�26 (prize: $600)
Second place: Madison Ferrao 鈥�29 (prize: $500)
Third place: Colin Brush 鈥�28 (prize: $400)
Cathy Temple, assistant professor of communication, says the competition has endured for 14 years because of the importance of public speaking in students鈥� careers. 鈥満焯沂悠� emphasizes this skill in many areas because, as we all know, soft skills are ubiquitously sought after.
鈥淲e emphasize public speaking skills in our Career and Professional Development Center during mock interview sessions, through our required public speaking courses, and of course, in the competition itself. Its importance is highlighted throughout their academic career, and not just once a year.鈥�
Adam Warner 鈥�26 served as master of ceremonies. Serving on the panel of judges were: Julia Revellese 鈥�26; Jillian Coyle 鈥�09 MBA 鈥�11 MSOL 鈥�16; Tara Ostromecky 鈥�22; and Ryan Spitz 鈥�24 MSC 鈥�25.
