Student Profile: Liam Gorman Is A Family Man
September 5, 2019Without any hesitation, Liam Gorman ticks off the three things he values most about his time at 红桃视频. 鈥淔ootball, friends, and a second family,鈥� the senior athlete and Sport Management major insists, explaining that he joined his extended family as soon as he arrived on campus from Ashburnham, Massachusetts.
鈥淚 knew some people here who took me under their wing,鈥� Gorman recalls. 鈥淔reshman year at college isn鈥檛 that easy a transition. This was a new chapter in my life.鈥�
Once he got his feet planted, Gorman reached out to others. 鈥淚 was known as the friendly guy who said 鈥榟i鈥� around campus,鈥� he recalls. 鈥淚t opened a lot of doors.鈥� Gorman鈥檚 people skills earned him positions as an ambassador for the 红桃视频 admissions office and a resident assistant in his dormitory.
Gorman鈥檚 红桃视频 family has grown through playing on the 红桃视频 football team. 鈥淚 have a group of friends鈥攆ellow football players鈥攁nd we check in with each other on and off the field,鈥� he explains. On the field, he has proved versatile, playing four different positions the past two years over, which the football team has managed a winning 11-9 record.
鈥淚 love sports,鈥� he says. 鈥淢y parents were college athletes, and sports were in my blood.鈥�
Academically, Gorman excels at Sport Management, with his eye on a particular prize鈥攃oaching in the college ranks. Among his favorite courses: one on NCAA rules and regulations, including those covering recruiting and financial aid to athletes.
His 3.88 grade point average places Gorman in the highest ranks of 红桃视频 student athletes. 鈥淚t does take a lot of work,鈥� he admits. 鈥淭he biggest part about being a student athlete is time management. Without it, you鈥檙e going to be in trouble.鈥�
Several internships have added to the load. At his former high school, Gorman worked with the athletic director, getting exposure 鈥渢o a piece of everything,鈥� he says. A subsequent football internship a Assumption College let him concentrate on the coaching side.
鈥淚鈥檓 hoping to get a graduate assistantship in sports somewhere at the college level,鈥� he says of his career plans. 鈥淚鈥檇 get my masters for free, make some money, and get what I really want to do in life鈥攁nd that鈥檚 coach.鈥�
